The Great War went from a mobile war in 1914 to a static conflict with hundreds of miles of trenches across France and Flanders. How did trench warfare come about, what were the trenches that crisscrossed the battlefield and what were the differences between Allied and German trenches?

  1. A fascinating podcast and an excellent reading list. Stephen Bull ticks all the boxes for me!

    Good also to here the veteran talk about the trenches at Vimy Ridge. No surprises that he found the 1980s version a bit pristine though!

  2. I forgot to ask, is the Hooge Crater museum open again? According to their website it is, but I would like to double check.
