Old Front Line 300th Episode

For our 300th Episode we reflect on six years of the Old Front Line Podcast and go back to where we started in March 2020 by retaking a virtual walk through the battlefields and village of Pozières on the Somme.

We start at the Pozieres British Cemetery and Memorial and then walk into the village seeing memorials, and discussing some of the ‘characters of the Somme’, walking up to Mouquet Farm and ending at the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing.

  1. You really are a national treasure. I’m recommending you for a Knighthood. ‘Sir Paul’ and all that. Of course, as an American, my recommendation carries absolutely no weight, but it’s the thought that counts. Carry on, till the barrage lifts.

  2. Congratulations on reaching your 300th podcast. Looking forward to the next 300!

  3. Great work as usual Paul, really enjoy the podcasts and your enthusiasm spurs me on.

My wife will kill me for saying this, but I have always wondered if we could get her name added to the Thiepval memorial. On our 1st visit to the Somme in 2013 she tripped over the stone of remembrance (it is quite small!!) put her arm down to stop herself and broke her shoulder. Spent the night in Peronne hospital. Not one of the missing but one of the fallen?
I have to add she has been happy to return to the Somme and the Old Front Line on many occasions since, a great wife.
