WW1 Podcast with Paul Reed
In our final battlefield walk at Ypres around Bellewaarde Ridge, Hooge and Hill 62, we visit Sanctuary Wood British Cemetery, in the heart of the fighting in this sector in 1915/16. We discuss the story of Gilbert Talbot and look at the private memorial to Keith Rae: both officers who fell here in July 1915.

We stayed in Hooge last October. Took a while to find Gilbert’s grave but so glad we searched him out. Headed to Poperinge for the day and visited inside Talbot House for the first time.
Emotional to say the least. Your vlog just brought all that back.
Great stuff Paul.

These vlogs have been excellent with the added bonus of listening to Paul as he walks around a particular site. We are so lucky in that he does these and his podcasts with such enthusiasm and vast knowledge of the subject.

Hi Paul,
Memories of my childhood, visiting with my parents.
More recently, the book I’m writing around a soldiers memoir, has thrown up a similar story as Talbot.
A chap in the same Rfa Brigade as my chap was killed in September 1917, Battle of Menin Road. His son, born only three months before, with same name as his father, was killed in Normandy in late June 1944 with SLI.
Both named Ernest Whysall.
Thanks

Thanks, Rick. I wonder how many stories there are like this?
