BOOKS BY RICHARD VAN EMDEN:
Richard has very kind shared these images relating to the books with us:

When you talk about Territorials do you mean like National Guard or Reserves? I thought territorials were troops from Canada, New Zealand, Australia etc.

In the Netherlands were we have conscription since 1811 (thanks to Napoleon) and being conscripted myself for 16 months, the stories of the volunteers that came from civilian lives, were put in bow tents and forced to live with each other and the army, differ not too much with my own experiences.
Found it all very amusing to hear and will definitely buy Richards book.

Very entertaining, sounds like a good social history as well as an oral one.
