Gallipoli: The Farm

Who was Harry Moseley? In this episode, we ask: can one man’s life be more important than another? Our journey takes us from the Helles Memorial, and the Missing of the Gallipoli Campaign, up to the high ground at Chunuk Bair and a walk to the isolated cemetery at The Farm, uncovering the life and achievements of one of Britain’s greatest Edwardian scientists.

  1. Another top draw episode…What a man…Must admit never heard of him! Glad to hear that better access has been made for the Farm…remember a steep rough track to get there on my visits in the 1990s and 2000s…..And if you are a ‘Westerner’ and haven’t been there it is a must visit battlefield! All the best Paul and look forward to more happy listening in 2023…..

  2. I absolutely agree with Niall about it being a top drawer episode. I was drawn to it as my grandfather was at Suvla in Gallipoli but I too had never heard of Harry and felt enlightened by the story particularly the Issac Assimov quote which is quite extraordinary. I was going to say at the start that this was a regular battlefield episode, the bread and butter of the podcast, with a story about Gallipoli and yet its ends up being so much more. I continue to learn so much with Pauls podcasts and his stories and see no reason why I need to listen to any other Great War podcast.

  3. Couldn’t agree more with the previous comments. As ever a fascinating podcast. I hadn’t heard of Moseley before this and Asimov’s quote was very illuminating.
