Villers-Bretonneux 1918

In this episode, we look at the fighting around Villers-Bretonneux on the Somme in April 1918, seeing where Australian and British soldiers stopped the German advance on the key city of Amiens. We visit the cemeteries and memorials, and see where Tanks fought Tanks for the first time in history.

  1. Just listened to yet another fascinating podcast late due to Leger D-Day trip with Ben a fortnight ago which is highly recommended. Very interesting to reiterate how important the railways were and fits in with another Leger trip in July War by Timetable which is excellent.

  2. Great account of the actions round Villers-Bret and a timely reminder of the debt that we owe to the Aussies. The account of the first tank v tank action at Cachy was fascinating as well.
