Arras: The Pals at Oppy Wood

The story of the Northern Pals battalions who marched to war in 1914 is forever linked to the Somme, but their war continued and in May 1917 they found themselves up against a ‘dark wood’ – Oppy Wood, near Arras.

Magnificent and always good to look at areas away from the big two! As you said Arras 1917 actually had the highest daily casualty rate of any of the Great War Battles around 4,500 a day……Remembering

I have not “walked Arras” yet with Leger, but after listening to this excellent account, this will be on my to do list once things return to a semblance of normality. As ever thanks for giving credit to the gunners and on this occasion a more recent set of unsung heroes, the Leger coach drivers. Over the past 20 years they have taken me along the byways of many a Great War and WW2 battlefield and I have always been in awe of the driving skills!
