WW1 Podcast with Paul Reed
Despatches goes on the road, and this episode was recorded on location in Flanders. We visit Coxyde Military Cemetery, a British and Commonwealth cemetery from when these troops held the line on the top end of the Western Front in 1917. What do we find here and what does the cemetery tell us about the Great War?

Was agnostic about whether doing live recordings on the battlefield would make much difference to your excellent podcast- but it really does. Lovely to hear your reflections and elements that come to mind as you’re actually there.

Another fantastic episode of Dispatches Paul. Definitely a forgotten sector of the Western Front. Mike

I have never been to the coast in Belgium. This certainly encourages me to.
The new despatches work well too.

A great SFD from the dunes. It was very evocative and given that it is another part of the forgotten front it has left me wanting to find out more. This area doesn’t seem to be represented in Pen & Swords “Battleground Europe” series, so I will have a look at Mark Karau’s book on MarineKorps Flandern.

Hi Stephen – there is a title covering the area which I have put on the podcast website.

Excellent Dispatch Paul.
A cemetery I must visit.
The two gunners you mentioned, buried next to each other were the only two from 330 Brigade killed that day, ‘A’ Battery, along with 16 wounded, the result of a heavy German bombardment.
330 Brig RFA is a great WD, some cracking barrage maps from Passchendaele.
Cheers.
