A great episode. Thanks. The outdoor recording was very effective. One of my favourite areas on the Somme with some fascinating stories. When walking up the track towards the Bois I like to imagine what it must have been like for a soldier walking the same route at night for the first time. The mixture of fear and excitement as they approached The Front, the occasional shell, flare or rattle of machine gun. .

Hi Paul,
Did that very same walk 3 or 4 weeks ago. I always visit Citadel, the line of officers/NCOs is very poignant.
I believe the Devonshire trench was called Blood Alley, is that correct?
Hopefully catch up out there again soon.
Love the ‘live’ podcasts.
