WW1 Podcast with Paul Reed
In this episode we look at so-called ‘War Damage Postcards’ published during the conflict and which depicts the smashed villages, towns and cities, and indeed landscapes of the Western Front. We ask what these postcards tell us about the conflict and the battlefields of the Old Front Line?
BATTLEFIELD MAP:
Most interesting Paul. I was collecting similar images at the same time as yourself and yet there are many you show which I have not seen before. Good to look at your blog again after a long spell in hospital.

Paul, I have heard that St Eloi Abby appeared in the 1966 Great War film “The Blue Max”. Is this correct ? From what I have read it was filmed in the Irish Republic.

I don’t think it does as it was filmed in Eastern Europe I think?

I love collecting postcards – the interpretation of them is an art, you have.
Wish I could find some 50p ones now
