Thanks for an excellent Q and A, the question on ground crew was especially interesting, giving them long overdue credit.
Regarding the burial of von Richthofen and the notions of chivalry associated with aerial combat; not all were imbued with this chivalric code. As you may recall, Mick Mannock, on hearing of the death of von Richthofen said that ‘he hoped that he roasted all the way down’!
Good plug for the Blue Max, one of my favourite Great War films and no doubt the catalyst for many a youngster becoming a member of the Airfix Generation.
