WW1 Podcast with Paul Reed
In this special episode of Despatches we look at two Christmases on the Somme: 1915 and 1916. We do this through the experience of men from southern England who served with the 18th (Eastern) Division and discover what their life in the trenches and behind the front was like during the Christmas period.

Thank you Paul for another great podcast. I’m really enjoying the new Despatches format.
This particular Despatch touches my maternal grandfather’s service with 8th (Service) Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment from enlistment in September 1914 through Christmas 1915 (as per your podcast) up to the Somme where he was wounded on 14th July 1916 and didn’t return to service in France until 1918 after being transferred to the fledgling Tank Corps.
