Somme: Courcelette to ADANAC

In this episode, we are back on the Somme and follow in the footsteps of Canadian soldiers who fought at Courcelette in 1916. On this tiny battlefield, more than 6,000 Canadians went missing; we hear some of their stories and walk from the village to ADANAC Military Cemetery, one of the largest in this area.

Yet again I thank you discussing the contributions of the Canadians during the Great War. Every Canadian who is able should travel to this part of the world to see the large granite stones that commemorate the major Canadian battles. I have seen all of them and they tell a vast number of stories. Piper Richardson’s story is very remarkable. Your listeners would enjoy researching more about him. A fascinating story. 🇨🇦❤️🇫🇷🇬🇧🇦🇺🇳🇿

Well done as usual…the story of Piper Richardson is so similar to Piper Laidlaw…both VC winners……Looking forward to next week!

As always, a great podcast. Combined with your info and pictures from the web page and detailed discription making the walk easy to follow on maps make is so more real.

For me this might be the closed I would come to walk the old front line.

When last I visited Regina Trench Cemetery a short thunderous storm pasted over during which I sort cover at the entrance of the Cemetery. It appeared as if the a battle was in progress and in the rush almost tripped on a dud fragmentation shell. As it passed, the sun shown again and the birds sounded once more.
